BRAIN TUMORS ASSOCIATED WITH DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMS

Abstract
Brain tumors are frequently associated with a broad range of psychiatric symptoms that may be overlooked in clinical setting as functional disorders of non-organic origin. So, the differential diagnosis of any patient who displays acute or progressive change in behavior, personality or cognitive function, should include a brain tumor, especially if there are any associated focal neurological signs and symptoms.
In addition to assessing psychiatric and behavioral symptoms, a full neuropsychiatric evaluation should include physical, neurological, and mental status examinations, appropriate brain imaging and other neurodiagnostic studies ; formal neuroplychological testing is recommended particularly when there is any question or evidence of cognitivt- dysfunction on beside mental status testing.
We experienced three cases of brain tumors which manifested depressive symptoms but no prominent neurological signs in the early stage of illness. We illustrated clinical vignettes of these cases and discussed in view of differential diagnosis along with literature reviews.
